WHAT IS THE TICKING TIME-BOMB?
From 1985-1995, big Pharma sold off its facilities developing and manufacturing prescription drugs, along with the people working in them. The leavers formed companies known as Contract Research Organisations (CROs) and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisations (CDMOs). They began providing services to Big Pharma under contract, in exchange for cash.
Big pharma also handed over its storage and distribution assets, which were significant at the time, to wholesalers. It then sold its products to the wholesalers, cutting ties with the users of its products, to have no further direct contact with them.
For the last 30+ years, these third-party companies have been developing, manufacturing, and distributing pharma products on Big Pharma’s behalf—they are not able to do it themselves.
